Rowanwood/Macpherson update

The first few weeks of construction were challenging and came complete with snow storms. ABC and Councillor Saxe have been in continuous touch with the contractor’s field ambassador. We have received a general update from the contractor and an email addressing specific concerns about the project.

General Update

Macpherson Avenue

The watermain relocation work on the south side of Macpherson Avenue will continue for the next two weeks. The temporary road widening along the south side of Macpherson Avenue will soon begin. This will involve removing sections of sidewalk and traffic light relocation. During this work, one lane of traffic will be maintained on Macpherson Avenue.

After the watermain relocation and road widening on the south side of Macpherson Avenue is completed, work will begin at the receiving shaft area on Macpherson Avenue west of Yonge Street.

Rowanwood Avenue

Construction mobilization has begun at the launch shaft area at the intersection of Rowanwood Avenue and Thornwood Road. This work will involve setting up traffic signage, installing the fencing around the shaft compound, and setting up tree protection. The intersection of Rowanwood Avenue and Thornwood Road will be closed for approximately 14 months.

Rowanwood Avenue from Cluny Drive to Thornwood Road will be local access only. One lane on Thornwood Road adjacent to Rowanwood Avenue will remain open at all times. Access to driveways will be maintained throughout construction.Access for pedestrians will be provided on the north side of Rowanwood Avenue and will be maintained throughout construction.

Recent concerns

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns. We truly appreciate your patience as we work through this construction phase.

Our site inspector has checked the area and found that the snow has mostly melted. If that hadn’t been the case, we would have made arrangements to remove it. That said, we do understand how frustrating this situation has been, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience it has caused.

Regarding parking, we acknowledge that more than six spots on the south side are currently occupied. But, once work on the north side is set up and the compound is in place, traffic will be rerouted, and the number of occupied spots will be reduced to the planned spaces.

We know these 18 months are tough for residents, and we don’t take your patience for granted. It is also a critical time for the project team, as we work to complete essential infrastructure improvements that will serve the community for years to come.

We truly appreciate your cooperation and are making efforts to minimize disruptions along the way.
