A pedestrian was hit recently by a car that was turning left from Rowanwood to Yonge.
The accident victim was visible: It was still light, she was wearing light-coloured clothing, including a white cap and reflective shoes, and was crossing Yonge Street at Macpherson with the green light.
The driver was not paying attention and struck her. The impact threw her into the air.
She suffered a broken nose, broken thumb, fractured toes and a gash on her forehead.
A long-distance runner who has been accepted to run in the Boston Marathon, she is still healing and remains traumatized by the accident. She admits to looking at the clock to check on the time, and in that second, her attention was not focused on turning cars.
Drivers: No Distractions!
Pedestrians: Alert at all times.
Even though you might have the right-of-way, be sure the drivers see you. Cars are much heavier than you and could be considered a weapon on the road.
Our best wishes to this pedestrian for a quick recovery.
