Transport Canada provides recommended distances for initial evacuation in the event of a dangerous goods spill from a rail car. Once the first evaluation is complete, emergency responders must evacuate a larger, downwind square called the protective action zone. Distances vary from a minimum of 5 km to a maximum of 11 km based on the material spilled, whether it’s day or night, and factors such as wind speed. In the map we have used a chorine spill to show the evacuation zones along the CP Rail line at Dufferin St. and Dupont St..Click on each circle for explanation of the evacuation zone.
