Ensemble Polaris: FROM ICELAND TO THE MOON - DVD launch at Heliconian Hall

  • HELICONIAN HALL 35 Hazelton Avenue Toronto, ON, M5R 2E3 Canada (map)

Greetings from Ensemble Polaris!

You might already know that over the past few years, Ensemble Polaris has been at work creating and performing music to accompany silent films. We’ve worked with Andrew Downing, faculty and students at Ryerson’s Image Arts department, the Toronto Silent Film Festival, and others.

Last year we recorded our music for eight short films old and new, and we’ve released a DVD: FROM ICELAND TO THE MOON. We’re having a celebration to launch it, at which we’ll show some of the films accompanied by our soundtracks. We’ll also have copies available just in case you think the DVD would make a good festive season gift – or an any-other-season gift – for someone!

The films will include the 1902 classic Le voyage dans la lune (Georges Méliès), and Man Ray’s L’Étoile de mer with music by Andrew Downing, as well as other short films by Gabriele Grotto (Italy), Pierre Tremblay (Canada) and Gerda Cammaer (Belgium/Canada), and Ryerson grads Liz Gibson-DeGroote and Alicia Harris.

Various members of the band will provide some additional musical surprises throughout the evening. Kirk’s Swedish pipes, Alison’s kantele...and who knows what else?
Oh yes, and some delicious spiced cider will be on offer.
We hope you’ll join us!
