The Toronto Residents' Reference Panel would like to invite your membership to attend a public roundtable meeting on Saturday, March 22nd, from 2 to 4 pm. This is a special opportunity.
The Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), an agency of the Government of Ontario, has helped convene a residents’ reference panel of 36 randomly selected Torontonians. The Panel is reviewing community concerns regarding the provision of supervised injection services for people who inject drugs, and designing the elements of a reasonable public consultation process for soliciting and responding to the concerns of Toronto residents.
Hundreds of Toronto residents took the time to respond to our mailed invitation and volunteer to sit on the Residents' Reference Panel. From amongst the respondents, 36 were randomly selected to represent the Toronto Central region, balancing for age, gender, and geography. They met for the first of four meetings on February 22nd, and heard from public health experts before beginning to discuss how best to solicit and respond to the concerns of Toronto residents regarding supervised injection services.
The panel will not advise government on the merits or desirability of supervised injection services. There are currently no proposals to open a specific supervised injection site in Toronto.
We’d like to invite members of your organization to come meet the members of the Panel and work with them to help define how best to solicit public views and address community concerns regarding supervised injection services in Toronto. This two-hour event is open to the public — all are welcome. Please circulate this email on your organization's listserv, place a printed copy on your bulletin board, announce meeting information at your next gathering, and post meeting information on your website.
